Your local community shop and post office

Volunteering

Without our volunteers the shop would not exist, over 50 people who live in or around the village regularly give up their time to keep the shop open 7 days a week.  Most work as shop assistants, serving customers and keeping the shelves stocked. Others, no less essentially, help us keep the shop clean and tidy or paint something or build things for us when we need them. Others join working groups to tackle aspects of running the shop where their expertise is valuable and of course the management committee is composed of volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to get to know others in the village so if you have some time to spare and would like to get involved then please contact David Williams, our Volunteer Coordinator, either by email  or by telephone  01392 759754. He will be happy to talk to you about all types of volunteering opportunities.

Funding

  • Share Holders/Members – Over 150 local people are ‘shareholders’ in the Community Shop.  This means they have paid £10 and are able to vote at the Annual Members’ Meeting, as well as showing their tangible support for the Community Shop.  This level of support is impressive for a relatively small village and has been very helpful in securing other funding for the shop. If you would like to become a ‘shareholder’ simply go into the shop, with £10 in an envelope, which includes your – name, address, and contact details and a Share Certificate will be delivered to you. Please consider this.

Suggestions & Ideas

Ide Community Shop is owned by and for the benefit of its customers, shareholders and the village in general.  We are determined to go on improving the service the shop provides. We can’t do this without feedback from you, so please tell us if there is something that you would like us to stock or some service you would like us to provide. We also value your comments on the items we already sell and are just as keen to hear about the things you don’t like as about the things you like (whilst hoping that there will be more of the latter, of course). It is your shop!
