Ide Community Shop and Post Office opened in April 2009, by the local community and for the local community. The shop is run primarily by volunteers, from Ide, a village of approx. 450 residents very near to Exeter. The Ide shop was the 200th Community Shop to be set up in the country and has a sustainable business model that sees over 50 volunteers staff the shop for more than 45 hours per week, over all 7 days of the week.
Customers are welcomed from the village and the surrounding area.
The shop is like an Aladdins Cave, just a portable building on the outside, but within you will be amazed by the range, quantity and quality of products available.
There is an emphasis on local produce, in order to support and sustain the local economy and provide customers with the opportunity to enjoy fresh, locally grown and made products.
The shop is much more than a place to buy things, it is a community resource and a meeting place, as well as an information point, including internet access for customers.
